What are some good things to try when bass fishing in a small pound in Minnesota?
What are some lures and technic l should try?

in the spring, spinner baits cast right up to the shoreline and retrieved quickly trigger a lot of strikes. I've also used crappie jigs in the late spring with good success on small mouth bass.
Old fashioned hook and bait with night crawlers will work, and l have used plastic frogs worked on the surface over grass or lilly pads, and poppers or other top baits as well. Do not be afraid to try several different baits or techniques.

l mostly fish ponds as well and l always get bites on plastic lizards and jigs. Whatever you use l always downsize smaller crankbaits,buzzbaits, frogs,and spinnerbaits

like the other posters suggested, you have to have a well stocked tackle box to seriously fish for bass. However, the spinner bait and a soft plastic (worm or tube Texas rigged) are essentials. l also keep crankbaits that work at various depths handy like crawfish or shad types.

MN has such a wide difference in weather that each season has it is own ''best lures'':

Early Spring-Spring: In the Early Spring the average forage for a Bass is VERY small. Your best bet (at this time), is either very small jigs (1/16-1/8 OZ Jigs floated under a cork) or 4'' Texas-Rigged Worms without a weight. (When trying to pick a lure for early Spring think about what works best during the end of the Ice Season.)

As the water begins to warm up, & Spring arrives in full force, continue with Jigs & small Worms but begin trying suspending Rapala's, ( small Rapala Husky Jerk Minnow is in perch & shiner colors), & small Beetle Spin is & 1/8 OZ Spinnerbait's.

Summer- During the Summer use larger worms & jigs, along with larger Spinnerbait's, Husky Jerk Minnows, & Topwater Frogs. Crankbaits work well on the edges of big weedbeds. Around the end of June beginning of July start casting jigs & cranks that mimic Crawdads, (or have crawdad coloring). Summer is a time when many different things can work.

Fall- As Fall rolls around larger baits & lures take the biggest & best Bass/Northerns/Walleye, Etc. During Fall u can use very large worms, jigs, cranks, topwaters, Etc.

As u can see, in MN u need a wide variety of different ''sized'' lures. What u r doing when fishing MN is following the forage as it grows to full size. In other parts of the Country having Bass lures sized from a 1/16-1/2 OZ in ur tackle box is not as common, (esp below the Mason/Dixon line where it never gets cold enough).

However, if u r only fishing for ''trophy'' sized fish use large live Shiners, (period).

in spring and summer, DEFINITELY TOPWATER FROGS!!!!!!! they are a killer for bass, especially in the spring when the bass are spawning. buy a topwater frog at a tackle shop, they might range from 3$-10$. but l would go with the more expensive ones, trust me, it is worth it. Good luck

l have caught most of my bass on crankbaits. you can find relatively inexpensive crankbaits at any fishing store or at walmart. a good rule of thumb is the darker the water the brighter the lure should be. or vise versa. try and make the presentation life like and try going from fast retrival to slow and try variations. good luck!
