l am living in ireland and was wondering if there is any point in going to a lake stocked with rainbow trout to fish?the temp at the moment is around 0c,35f

l have been limiting out on rainbow trout here in Alaska when the temp is have been well below freezing (-18 F.) & the fish in much warmer water did not seem to mind that l was fishing through over two feet of crystal clear ice. We fished with salmon eggs & shrimp on small jigs or egg-hooks. We can do this consistently. l have considered using Berkley Power Bait for trout which works well in other applications, but l have yet to try it through the ice. l suspect it will work just as well in winter as any other time of year. Weather above the ice does not seem to bother the trout below it from our experience. Go for it & have a great day. Fishing is always a good day. Catching fish just makes a good day even better. Absolutely Yes! The fish should be within the top 2 feet of the pond. You will need to slow down ur presentation because the fish want to conserve energy. They typically will not chase fast lures or baits. l have caught some very large trout in the winter. l like to use a bobber about 18'' above my bait. Most baits will work, ie. salmon eggs, worms, crickets & what ever else u use during the summer.

You should check with the local fish management to make sure that the pond is open for fishing this time of year. l do not know how things r in Ireland, but the regulators in Oregon have the right to issue fines, confiscate gear, boats & trucks. If u r fishing out of season & have a protected fish, u can spend up to 5 years in prison per fish.

you wont know until you try. yes they will be there but they will be alot slower and harder to catch (all the more fun)
