l wanna try to do some winter trout fishing.l have a Stream with native Brook trout in it and wanna know what to use and whats the best technique. l am in NE PA

When l go up to Priest Lake Idaho l usually use a wedding ring spinner with small orange power bait pellets and it works good.

Caught enough to eat for breakfast so it works for me

Depends somewhat on the nature of the streams. I'd guess, from ur location, you're talking about headwater streams of freestone creeks.

Those r relatively infertile waters, & the brookies will hit anything that looks like food. If u can find a source, crickets r especially appealing to them. If not live ones, use flyfishing tackle & cricket immitations.

For artificials, I'd go with small, in-line spinners & a dressed treble hook. Here, again, work up- or quartering-upstream, & work the spinner just slightly faster than the current.

l fish for native brookies in the mountains of virginia..i've never used bait for them because of the chance they will swallow the hook & die, plus it is illegal on most of the streams l fish. so l pride myself in hooking these guys with artificials on spin gear. my top lure of all time is a size 00 mepps aglia inline spinner with a single bare hook. those can be hard to find though, so sometimes l will go with size 0 to size 1 bluefox spinners rigged with a single hook, dressed or undressed. also, gag is grabbers makes a small spoon used for catching the shad when they run the rivers, & this thing catches the hell out of em, especially the larger ones. gold is the best color for all these. please catch & release these gems.

Corn or Nightcrawlers under a bobber works best as far as baits go. Heck, you can also try some marshmallows, they will also work. No bait will work better for trout than Nightcrawlers or corn.
