l live on the coast of GA and l went to go fishing a few evenings ago. The second l got there on the dock and the sun went down, l was swarmed by over 50 gnats and left off of the dock back in my truck. I am interested in taking the boat out to fish tonight but am afraid that l might get swarmed again even if I am in the boat and waste time, money, gas.... Does anyone one if gnats are worst over saltwater or anything l can do to make a night out of fishing enjoyably? Thanks!

They should abate once you get off of land aways. That always seems the case when l go to Canada and the bugs are bad, but usually get better or disappear over the water. The critters need land to survive, and probably wo not venture over water, unless that is where they lay their eggs, then it might get bad (not a gnat reproduction expert.)

a few things things,

use off insect repellent
or lite dose of deet
l carry and eat cinnamon (individual wrapped) candies,,,, bugs hate that smell

If ur in open water or sitting in the middle of a large wide creek gnats & mosquito is generally wo not bother u due to wind, & how Mosquito's/Gnats ''zero-in'' on their host.

Gnats & Mosquito is ''find you'' by using receptors that pick up ur ''heat signature'' & carbon dioxide, (they sense what u exhale when u breathe).

In other words, if ur in the middle of the lake or creek & have a bit of wind u wo not be bothered by those critters.

If ur in a small creek or near the shore, & it is dead calm, u might want to spray on some Deet bug spray. (Night is usually when the wind calms; best to bring some Spray!)
