l live in Kuwait and l fish salt water reefs ,our main fish in these reefs is the emperor fish and few of emperor snaper and l normally catch them with tradition bait fishing on pieces of squid as a bait . But for the past few weeks l saw many TV programs about fishing and how jigs are effective especially the bucktail jig .My question is ,can l catch emperor fish on a jig and if so what type and colours of jigs are effective in catching this type of fish , thanks for every body in advance

l bet they would work great. l fish Northwest BC. Using bucktail or a bucktail style of jig we catch a variety of fish species. Some include : Ling cod, kelp cod, sea bass, snapper, halibut, greenling, rock cod(all varieties). l have caught fish on these type of jigs on the Southwest Calif. coast & Gulf of Mexico coast. That is why l feel a bucktail style of jig should work fine where ur fishing. As far as choosing a jig color? You said u use squid for bait sometimes(so do I) so white might be a good choice. l use white colored with good success. My other hitting colors r chartreuse, purple, & glittered. Besides the bucktail style of jig there r lot is more to choose from that would catch u good fish as well. Buzz-bombs, spinnows, Mc Deep's, or the many other choices of heavier jigs that get u down deep quicker then most rubber style jigs. The solid metal jigs work great in heavy current also. 40yr exp
