Does WD40 work with fishing lures

I've heard of it being used l personally do not think it could be to healthy for the fishies, l just use the regular scents, bang, powerbait, or bait mate. they work fine and non toxic.

There has been this theory for many years, ive heard from some pretty reliable sources it works well in saltwater, but l do not know how true that is, its generally a myth, its only vegetable based, some people will use it bt personally l would not waste a can of the stuff on lures, the bait additives work allot better, like those by berkley.

The only thing WD-40 does for a lure is help keep it from rusting, but all-natural olive oil is thicker and lasts longer (not to mention, does not contain petroleum which can get you in trouble for polluting the water). Besides, you can make it into a freshwater attractant by simply mixing garlic or curry powder in the oil.

l think the strong, weird smell, would repulse fish. Regular scents would probably work better.

The only thing about using WD40 on lures is that many saltwater fish avoid the human smell (industrial smell). The best way to mask the scent is to use a fish attractant such as Carolina Lunker Sauce (there are many different scents eg: shrimp, herring, manhaden.). try using these, you will definately see results. NO because of the chemicals,it can be spread by your hands onto,other things that the scent will make the fish not bite,i just dip mine in fresh water then air dry
Sometimes l dip my lure into the fish oil just before casting out
