l recently bought some Stren yellow braid line with a 8lb test and a diameter equal to that of a 3lb mono test, and l fish mostly at a local marina and rivers. Will the yellow color of the line spoke the fish in clear water, has anyone had any experience using colored braided line?

l do not believe the color will spook the fish. l have a friend that always uses Spider-Wire and l do not like it. He uses a heavier test on a bell reel and is unable to cast his line very far. Personally, l clear monofilament line.

Just experiment and see how YOU like the line and how many fish you catch.

they will spook the fish here & there.i have used the cabelas version. however it all depends on the water & under water environment. if there is some sort of gravel, sand, or vegetation, it should blend in. wary fishes will avoid a suspicious attachment, but not all. the downside is that the biggest ones r usually the wary fishes, unless hungry. l had good days & bad days with my trial. l have been more consistent with mono. if the environment permits it to blend in then u should be ok for the most part. by this l mean just try to visualize it yourself. for example pretend the sky is the white ceiling of ur house & picture a yellow line running across it, u will see it. can u see where l am getting at? or u can picture the line at eye level blending in with the furnitures & such around you.but basically thats the idea l am trying to get across. what l have done & been successful was to just tie a 18 or more inches of 8lb or more mono leader to the end of the braided line attached with a swivel. this way u get the diameter & strength of the braided but the invisibility of the mono. give it a shot

l dont believe so. but l heard that braided line should mostly be used for fishing with topwater frogs

it wont spook the fish but use a 6''-18'' monofilimant or flurocarbon leader because braid has no strech it will rip the fishes mouth off

l surfcast for big stripers on Long Island all l use is braid if you use a fluorocarbon leader you wo not have any problems at all.

The clarity of the water is what l look at when choosing a line color. If u fish the same waters often enough, u can pretty well tell what the water is going to be like before u go. As the braided line goes, l do not think it is a good choice for river fishing. It is a very sensitive line & the rocks that ur bait will bump against will feel like a bite. You will set the hook & get hung up. Which brings up a second reason for not using a braided line in a river. It is a bit% breaking the line. But , back to ur question, l believe that lines r made in different colors for the fisherman & not the fish.

Yellow lines will spook fish.

If l remember it correctly, Stren introduced bright yellow fishing lines in the early 90's. It was advertised as scratch resistant line that is highly visible to humans but not fish. Immediately after the line was introduced, many local saltwater fishermen around my area switched to those high priced bright yellow lines. The fame only lasted for around 2-3 months because people realized fish can see those bright yellow lines quite well & those lines do kill ''some'' bites. The first time l saw those bright yellow lines was during a wide open mackerel/bonito bite. The bite ratio was around 5:1 or 6:1 between yellow lines & clear monos. The ratio get worse when the bite cooled down.

l am pretty sure those yellow lines will work as advertised on certain species. It will probably work pretty well at certain depths too. Too bad that l do not know which specie of fish will have problem seeing yellow & l do not know at what depth will yellow become invisible to fish. Many fly fishermen use yellow braids for fly line backing though.

You should not have any problems, but if you do there is a simple way to solve it, add a leader of fluorocarbon of about 6ft to the end of it and then attach your lure, bait etc to that, it will also reduce any shocks from hard biting fish. l like to use Berkley vanish as a leader when fishing braid.

Good question. l love braided line & l have a rod that takes up my slack because braided line does not give. l had too many breakages in mono line so l changed to braided.

As far as color goes l have used lots & rely on blue.Yellow has no positive or negative affects on fishing for me or my buddies.

Braided lines r primarily used for (but not limited to) worm/jig fishing. l would not use anything else for worm/jig fishing.

Whenever possible we just try to have the sun the furthest from the fish & the fisherman. The shadow of the fisherman can & usually does kinda spook a fish..Our shadow will not reflect to the fish when the r between us & the sun.It works for us & we r in Southeast Florida...

Good luck & most of all have fun.
