What kind of fish do you usually catch in the winter? Do you usually catch less fish in the winter than in summer? What kind of bait should l use? Any other tips please.

l usually buy an ice rod with fireline crystal micro-ice line. l jig with any kind of jigs l can find (some shown on bottom). l also like using tip-ups with minnows hooked on. l usually catch more fish ice fishing. The fish are so cold, they will eat ANYTHING they can find, but they do not go very far.

l catch walleye/northern pike crappie/bluegills and perch through the ice. For ice fishing l use minnows or wax worms and sometimes berkley gulp. l catch more fish in the summer. But l do pretty well in the winter as well.

Tip ups work great for northern and walleye but you should try jigging with waxies or minnows for bluegill, perch and crappie. l catch more fish through the ice because l have more time to fish in the winter. Good luck!
